Well, first off, this is just simple graphite on paper.
Secondly, please don't be too harsh. Drawing is the one thing that I can't do at all that I really wish I could. I am putting this here because I want constructive criticism so that I may get better. I just decided to stop whining about my inability to draw, and finally try to do something about it.

So, please, constructive criticism would be very very much obliged. Especially on Scar, I don't know exactly how to fix him, I just know that he's broken.

I chose The Lion King, because it's my favorite Disney movie. After all, Shakespeare * Disney + African animals = Great movie. It's also obviously animated, which means that it's easier for me personally to analyze. I printed out a bunch of pictures, this is just the first one that I did because I decided that it would be the easiest and most basic, because the main apsect is just a huge shadow, which is full of shapes. I also have a lot of more difficult ones that I might try if this one isn't as terrible as I think it is. I also might digitally color this one if it is salvagable, so that would be something new as well.

Source is [link] if that helps anyone critique me. I also realized that I should have been drawing landscape, as I got these from the widescreen DVD, but oh well, doesn't matter too much....I think.

The Lion King, and Scar belong to The Walt Disney Company.

Well I hate drawing and I can't draw very well- a few things I noticed.
The thing Scar is standing on isn't angled/steep enough or whatever.
Scar looks like he is standing but in the photo he is sitting kind of in a wolf howling position although Lions don't howl.
I'm not sure if you're making it exactly like the source but just a few things I noticed.
alright. im not good at drawing either, but i took a cartooning class once so ill try.

the shadow acutally looks ok, and there is nothing that can done with the background because its basically based on the colors.

now the ledge. the ledge looks flat. have you ever drawn a cube using the squares trick. im not sure how to descirbe it. but when you do that, you get two sides. and you see where they join. try with that and stretching it out and stuff. OR draw the ledge on an angle. when you compare it to the original it is at a different angle. yours look like you are looking from the side and the originaly is like looking from below. The lighted part of the ledge is bigger on the original as well.

now i really cant help you with scar himself. all i can say is that you have to make his chest puffier with the mane and make his nose stick up more and definetly make him bigger, he is unproportioned with the rest.

well thats just my opinion. some hardcore artist may come and tear my advice to shreds. but i tried, i hope it helps

if im the only sane person in this world, does that make me crazy
it's a start...

agreeing with MeLikeCookies, the ledge that Scar's standing on does need a bit more angle, and he does look like he's sitting in the photo.

i think if you could find a zoomed in view of Scar, it may help to get his position a little better.

...not that he's really that big or anything...lol.
It does help a lot, thank you very much. I can try the cube trick, does that just mean the two squares, and connect the corners? I can do that, and I see what you mean, this is just like that now that you mention it.

Thanks :)

I am trying to make it just like the source pretty much, as I'm just practicing my eyes and hands right now, not my creativity.

Yes, I see that now, it should be steeper. And I know what you mean by the howl, he's more being full of pride and ambition in the middle of a song.

Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I tried to get a closer one of him in that scene. Maybe I can just pause the same exact frame on my computer and draw it that way. It'll be much bigger.

Thanks for the advice.

Try drawing Scar a bit more, and larger, on different sheets of paper, in different poses. It will help give you a feel for how to draw him. the background is ok, but your scar looks like a box. Round out his back, give the legs some shape. I'm sorry to be brutal, but thats how art is advanced.
I don't mine the brutality at all, on the contrary, it is very much obliged and that is excellent advice. I'll definitely have to draw Scar on his own some.

Very interesting.
I'd love to see this with complete shading
